 Flynnee

My beautiful boy flynnee…..kennel club name ~ Almost An Angel.

We had just lost Emma our first dog and not looking for another as we already had three others, but, I heard about Flynn through a friend as she was looking for another dog. Like Emma he was a Blue Merle. He was approx 7/8 months old, had been in the pound were he finished his time, and no one came to claim him. His life was saved by the vet who should have been ending it. From there he ended, up with a fantastic lady who has now set up West Yorkshire Dog Rescue. I made enquiries about him, and he came to us on the 1st April 2005.

He didn’t look like a young dog when we got him, he was so thin and in such a state. He didn’t know how to react to people, dogs or anything, he just didn’t have a clue and his general answer to anything that upset him was to growl and bark.

I began obedience training as soon as I could (I compete with my other dogs). I can not say he has been an easy dog, and often call him special, but I have learnt so much from him. He no longer wants to have a go at all dogs he meets, its only people that he very occasionally he thinks are scary.

My total approach to training completely changed when I got Flynn, I chose the positive reinforcement training path and we have learnt so much together.

As well as competing in obedience, he also runs with the Greetland Grasshoppers Flyball teams, which he absolutely adores. He is so focused on running and enjoying himself that he doesn’t notice any other dogs.

These last few years I have learnt to relax with Flynny as he has become almost a normal dog, I just adore watching him occasionally making new friends and playing and fooling around with them.

All in all, I love him to bits, and would not change the journey and experiences we have had together.
